The Most Important Aspect of Online Learning: Communication
We often hear parents ask what they can do to help their students succeed at BlueSky. The tried and true answer is simple. Communication! Not just between parents and students, but between everyone involved. This includes teachers, advisors, and administrators. Everyone on the BlueSky team is here for our students.
Our goal is to see every BlueSky student succeed, but we need consistent and clear communication to make this happen! Below we give our tips on how to create an environment of positive communication for successful online learning.
Communication with BlueSky Staff
Creating a clear line of communication between families and our BlueSky staff is key to a successful year. We are here to help! Parents and guardians are navigating a different kind of school year, so we encourage them all to use our staff as a resource.
Create a routine of communication with your BlueSky team. Beyond just a phone call or text, we set up virtual or in-person meetings with BlueSky families to keep communication open and consistent. Any and all questions are welcomed both from families and from students. This is essential to your online learning experience!
Student – Parent Communication
Online learning comes with real support from real people, so your student is not on their own. But being supportive of your student includes being communicative with them, and they of course need your support! Communicate with your students often, but give them the space they crave. Students, we find, like to feel independent in their studies, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need reminders or encouragement.
Make it clear to your student that you are there to help them and that the line of communication is always open! A big part of online learning communication is keeping the door open, but it’s up to students to walk through it.
Virtual Learning Communication
In order to be successful in online learning, it’s important for students to reach out often. Our team is always ready to respond to student needs. In a traditional classroom, all a student needs to do is raise their hand if they have a question. With online learning, students need to email, text, or call in order to be heard. While this is a different challenge, it teaches students to be confident in their voice and that their questions are important.
Any big change can be difficult, so knowing how to navigate is imperative to handling changes. We are here to serve as a resource to our families, if you want to learn more about BlueSky, contact us here!
