New to Online Learning? Our Top Tips for Success!

This week, many students across all ages started their school year. Things look a little different for most of them. Some students are going back to a brick and mortar school, some are making the switch to distance learning, and some are doing both! This year is certainly different. This can feel a little daunting, but if you’re new to online learning, we’re here to ease your stress!

Online learning is new for so many this year, but for us, it’s our thing! We’ve been at it for years! Twenty years to be specific.

Find a Balance

It’s important for parents to understand that online education is not homeschooling. It’s equally important for students to understand that even though they’re learning at home, they still have to stick with some kind of structure. We encourage the whole family to find a balance between a strict schedule and flexible break times. Our programing offers both scheduled classes and classes students can take at their own pace.

For BlueSky students, or students who are enrolled in distance learning, we offer these tips to keep both students and parents balanced:

  • Write out a flexible schedule on paper where you can easily access it
  • Create an organization system for assignments
  • Support your student by giving them space and independence

Trust Your Administration

Giving your student the independence they may crave in a new at-home learning environment can be tricky! We understand that this kind of change can be tough on all family members. If you’re online learning with BlueSky, you can put your trust in our administration. We provide your student with the educational support they need to stay on track, giving you peace of mind that you don’t need to act as “teacher”. We will provide the structure needed for a successful year of online learning, we just need your trust! Our teachers and counselors encourage students to ask as many questions as they need in order to feel confident in their studies.

Use Your Resources

Don’t forget that your student still has a teacher on their side! Our staff is made up of full-time and fully trained and certified educators, all eager to support your student. This means that even when virtual classes are over, students and parents have the opportunity to connect with staff one-on-one – something we encourage!  We truly want your students to succeed in this strange time in their education. No matter what age your student is, they deserve the support and guidance they need to succeed this year. We encourage you to use us as a resource, even if you’re not a BlueSky family.
