MN Online School: Tips for Excelling

BlueSky is a MN online school dedicated to helping our students excel at online learning. We’ve learned a few things over the last twenty years and we’d like to share our biggest lessons. Online middle school and online high school differ slightly but there are strategies and productivity tactics that are tried and true regardless of age or grade.

Tips for Excelling at a MN Online School

The following tips will help students feel more confident and give them the insight needed to excel at an accredited online school in Minnesota.

Utilize Online Educational Tools

Online educational tools are a great way to streamline or even automate school work, study, or test reminders. Technology has given us some great digital tools for time management, study practice, and more. Educational apps are a great way for students to use their smartphones as an educational tool between classes, on a road trip, or whenever they have downtime.

Make it a point to utilize all of the online resources available to you. Your online school will likely give you many resources that can help you get organized and be more productive. Use our BlueSky blog for help preparing for and setting expectations for online school.

Practice Effective Communication Skills

Communication in any learning environment is key. But because online school takes away that physical face-to-face communication, it is essential to being successful during your online education. Our BlueSky administration has learned how to best communicate with every kind of unique learner over the last twenty years and we continue to strive to be as communicative as possible.

Create a space for open and honest communication for your online learner so they can practice effective communication at home. Positive reinforcement and affirmative words are two ways to encourage students of all ages to communicate.

Allow Students to Set Their Own Realistic Goals

A student is their own best resource when it comes to knowing what goals they want to set and what they need to succeed. Allow your student to set their own goals for their online school experience. Maybe they want to complete their classes in record time or simply make it to graduation. Whatever they want to strive for during their online education experience can be done by setting realistic goals.

Start with a long-term goal and then break it up into smaller, simpler goals. For example, a goal may be to ace state tests. Create smaller goals within that long-term goal. Small goals could be to spend one hour practicing for the test each week or starting a study group that meets consistently until the test date. Goal-setting is an extremely useful tactic for success but it also teaches middle and high school students a valuable life lesson.

Learn How to Best Manage Stress

If you’re looking for a MN online school, you’re likely aware that Minnesota weather can be unexpected. The same goes for many of life’s experiences. The ability to know how to manage the stress that comes with life’s unpredictability is an invaluable skill.

If a less-than-desirable test score comes back, use it as a learning opportunity instead of a stressful, discouraging experience. There is no better skill to have than to learn how to roll with the punches and learn from life’s inevitable mistakes. At BlueSky, we provide a team of support for all students. We are here to help our students learn from their mistakes and grow instead of becoming stagnant or discouraged.
