Preparing Your Student for Life After High School

This year has been tough, to say the least. But things are moving forward and if your student is a junior or senior this year, they may be thinking about life after high school. Both college and career have changed in the last year – as has online college prep – so it’s no surprise that students can be left feeling a little lost. Nevertheless, it’s important to help your students prepare for what’s coming next. Use the following tips to help you navigate and determine your student’s life after high school.

College Testing and Financial Aid

If your student has already decided that he or she will be heading off to college after high school, then it’s time to get prepared! Juniors this year in the midwest should be prepping for the ACT test. There are several dates and locations for the test this year, including here at our BlueSky campus in Bloomington on March 2.

Visit act.org to learn more about how to get registered and how to prepare for the test. Some families have trouble deciding whether to take the SAT or the ACT when preparing for college entrance, but both exams are widely accepted by US colleges and universities.

Financial aid and scholarships for college are important considerations when planning for college. The FAFSA application is open now for students planning to attend college in the Fall semester 2021.

College & Career Preparation Courses

Here at BlueSky, we off a variety of options for college-level courses and electives to better prepare them for college and career. Many other high schools offer these options as well, it’s just a matter of connecting with your administration to find out your students’ options. Our career academy helps students to develop time management skills and explore college and career options.

Our courses range from healthcare to business to law, and more!

Explore Options

Regardless of what’s happening in the world, this is a big step for your student! Up until now, they likely haven’t had to make big decisions about their education. Encourage them to take time to research their options. This will help to discover what they’re most interested in. Be open to them if they’re curious about a specific career option or college, have an honest conversation, and allow them to explore different avenues.

Future planning for high school students doesn’t need to be scary. Whatever your student is leaning towards for their future, help them determine their path and ease their anxieties by simply being there on their journey.
