Socially-Distanced Halloween Activity Ideas

Halloween is only a few days away! This is such a fun time of year for the whole family, but it can also be a stressful time. Especially now, there is so much uncertainty about what is “safe” and what should be avoided. We do know that this pandemic is still going on and we should still act accordingly. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t get creative with some great Socially-Distanced Halloween activities!

For teens and pre-teens, this time of social distancing can be particularly difficult. These activities allow for some social time while still abiding by the safety standards in place. We hope some of these ideas help you to have a happy Halloween!

Gather Your Neighbors For a Distanced Block Party

Where we live, here in Minnesota, it is starting to get pretty cold. But that won’t stop us midwesterners from enjoying this spooky holiday. If you live on a residential street, enlist your neighbors to spookify their driveways and even the street if your city allows it!

Set up an outdoor space for pumpkin carving or just candy grabbing and let the socially-distanced mingling begin! This is a great way for the kids to get out and socialize with neighbors without going door-to-door. We’ve been seeing driveway bonfires and even outdoor at-home movies using a sheet and a projector! However, you’d prefer, connect with those who are close to you, like your neighbors, to spend a little time outside enjoying Halloween together!

Virtual Halloween Costume Contest

Now that we are all Zoom experts, it’s time to have some fun with this new virtual world we’re living in! Schedule a time for a costume contest over Zoom this year and give your kid the opportunity to show off their creativity. A virtual costume contest can involve as many people as you’d like and there’s no risk of overstepping those safety boundaries. If your student is in the middle of their first year of online learning, this is a great way for them to reach out to their new classmates!

Virtual Game Night

If your kiddos aren’t into dressing up, encourage them to have a virtual game night this Halloween with their friends! There are a surprisingly large number of games they can play over a virtual call. PlayingCards.io has some free versions of our favorite board games that you can play from your phone while on a zoom call! You can even get some trivia going over zoom by using an online trivia generator!

We know that Halloween looks different this year, but we hope you can use these socially-distanced Halloween activities to make the best of it! Send us your Halloween costumes and ideas! We’d love to connect with you on Facebook!
