BlueSky’s Supplemental Program: Answering Your Questions
Online school is a great alternative to classroom-based learning, but it doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing proposition. A growing number of students have discovered that online learning can be a great way to supplement a traditional educational experience.
BlueSky offers two ways to learn: a full-time option where students attend all classes online and a supplemental program. With the supplemental option, students enroll in one to three classes online and take the remainder of their coursework in a traditional classroom environment.
Every student has their own unique learning style and many have other responsibilities beyond getting an education. Our supplemental program is extremely useful for students who need an alternative way of getting their diploma or completing course work. Supplemental courses are offered to both middle and high school students.
Here are a few things to know about BlueSky’s online supplemental education.
The Benefits of Supplemental Learning
Students enroll in BlueSky’s supplemental program for many reasons. A student who has a complicated work or school class schedule could benefit from supplemental learning. Any student seeking flexibility to accommodate their commitments is a good candidate for supplemental learning. This program is great for students who are enrolled in traditional school but would like additional elective options or are not able to take a course needed towards graduation because of scheduling conflicts. It also is a great option for students who need a break from the classroom environment for a portion of their day.
There are many reasons why students may choose to sign up to take online classes to get the credits necessary to graduate. The best thing about online school is that you can do your classwork on your own schedule. But many students opt for online learning to supplement their traditional school schedule.
Your Unique Learning Experience
Whether a student chooses full-time or supplemental learning, the BlueSky education experience is completely customized. For supplemental students, that means taking a look at your existing graduation plan and class schedule and choosing the courses that will help you reach your goals. You can make sure you grasp one section before moving on to the next with our group or self-paced courses. Best of all, you’ll have one-on-one contact with your instructor, which means you can ask questions at any time.
BlueSky’s Supplemental Program: Frequently Asked Questions
What Courses Can My Student Take?
BlueSky’s state-approved programs are led by teachers who are licensed by the state of Minnesota. You’ll remain enrolled in your current school district, with each course you take applying toward your graduation. You can take both core classes and electives, and every class meets or exceeds state standards. This means you can rest assured that the classes you take offer the same credits you’d get if you sat in a classroom every day.
Will We Still Get Support from BlueSky Administration?
Once you enroll in BlueSky’s supplemental program, you will work with a supportive supplemental coordinator in conjunction with your traditional school counselor to determine the courses that are right for you. BlueSky’s supplemental coordinator and teachers will provide support through the enrollment process and within your online courses to make sure you are successful in the online learning environment. You will also receive consistent communication and feedback from BlueSky staff and have access to a dashboard with real-time progress reports and grading.
What Qualifications are Required for Supplemental Courses?
The only requirement for our online supplemental program is that a student attends a public Minnesota middle or high school. Any MN middle or high school student is eligible to take up to 50% of their courses online at an approved supplemental online school like BlueSky.
Even if your middle or high school has a different online school to which they refer students, you’re able to choose your online school. You are not required to stay within your district for school because MN has school choice.
Whether you’re interested in online learning full-time or as a supplement to your classroom-based education, there’s a plan that can help.
