Wise Financial Literacy Certified Instructors at BlueSky
The Wise Financial Literacy Certification is the first of its kind, and it assesses the knowledge of personal finance topics that are aligned with state and national standards. Two of our incredible instructors, Gabra Lokken and Chris Peterson have just become certified! They are two of just fifty-one teachers in the whole state of Minnesota who recently passed the exam this March.
About the Wise Financial Literacy Certification
The MN Department of Education had a goal of certifying business teachers so they were proficient and capable of teaching a personal finance course. The WISE program created the initiative to create consistency and high literacy of personal finance for instructors. It launched in 2008 to create a credential for instructors that demonstrates proficiency to teach personal finance. The test can be taken by any qualified professional but is specifically designed for high school teachers.
Financial Literacy at BlueSky
As a public online school, we have seen the lack of education around personal finance for students and we understand that the lack of financial understanding can be detrimental for students as they start to navigate their finances in and after high school. Our teachers wanted to have a certification that not only showcased their knowledge of financial literacy – but truly gave them the tools to teach students how to excel and their own personal finances.
Our certified teachers offer a Personal Finance course for grades 9 through 12. This course is to provide our students with the basic financial tools and knowledge they need to be financially successful.
This knowledge of personal finance gives students a foundation to build strong money management habits early on. This in turn helps students avoid many common financial mistakes that can lead to lifelong financial struggle.
