BlueSky’s Supplemental Program for Middle and High School Students

There can be a lot of questions and a lot of unknowns around student learning options for middle and high school students. Students and families have exciting choices these days, and it is important that they are aware of the options available to them.

BlueSky’s Supplemental Program

Students who attend a public middle or high school in the state of Minnesota have the option of taking one to three of their classes online at a state-approved supplemental program. BlueSky has a Supplemental Program that is teaching kids from across the state. This program allows students to maintain enrollment in their school while supplementing their schedule with an online course(s) at BlueSky.

Middle School Supplemental Courses

Our middle school courses are a bit more structured; students move through the class at the same pace, and there is one live session or course each week. They are not required to log in at certain times of the day, however. They are simply expected to have the assignments completed by the end of the week.

High School Supplemental Courses

High school students are given an option on whether they’d like the structure or prefer the freedom with our Group Pace (GP) or My Pace (MP) course option. In GP courses, students move through the course at the same pace, and there is one required live class session in Zoom each week. With the MP format, students have access to the entire semester’s work and are able to go through it at their own pace. There are no required live Zoom sessions in My Pace courses.

In all formats: middle school, GP, or MP, students have access to supportive and responsive teachers for support in their learning. They can connect over the phone, by text or email, via Moodle Messaging, or in a Zoom session.

Academic Snapshot

Students and parents also have access to what we call an Academic Snapshot, which highlights student progress in each course, letting them know what is expected in terms of assignment completion each week, as well as how they’re doing on the assignments they have submitted thus far. Students, parents, and school counselors are kept in the loop on student progress by our Supplemental Program team members, who reach out with progress updates at least 2 times each month, so everyone is on the same page in terms of student progress. If extra student support is needed, BlueSky’s Supplemental team is quick to initiate support meetings, as well as extra communication and encouragement. To learn more, reach out to us!
