How BlueSky Supports Students with IEPs

An individual education program (IEP) is a plan put together by students, parents and staff. It lays out the instruction, support, and services that a student needs. The plan includes the student’s present level of educational performance (PLEP), annual goals and short-term objectives, adaptations or related services, assistive technology, and progress measurement.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires IEPs. The IDEA defines what schools must do for students with disabilities. For students to receive special education services, they need an IEP. The first step to getting an IEP is to have a special education evaluation. Then, the school must decide whether your child qualifies for support.

A student’s special education program kicks off with an IEP meeting. The IEP team must meet at least once a year. This annual meeting is a chance for parents and staff to put together the best plan for the student.

BlueSky provides all students with a custom, quality education. All students are better off with individualized plans based on their abilities.

BlueSky supports students with IEPs

Can students with IEPs attend online school?

Of course! All students have the right to quality education. Each student has their own set of skills and educational needs. At BlueSky, every student has the opportunity to progress at their own pace. Our curriculum allows students the freedom to learn how, when, and where they prefer. Students can spend more time on concepts they find difficult and less on those that come easy.

Online learning removes the social stigma students face in conventional classrooms. For students that have difficulty focusing, it allows them to learn when and where works best.

For students with IEPs, we have dedicated staff to help them succeed. All our students receive an individualized education, regardless of their IEP status. Our staff is passionate about providing accommodations for each individual student. Teachers can also adjust the curriculum depending on students’ interests and needs.

BlueSky’s custom support teams

At BlueSky, every student has an assigned three-person support team. This team works with each student to earn their high school diploma and achieve their goals beyond BlueSky.

Each student has an advisor, counselor, and school social worker.

The advisor is the student’s first line of support at BlueSky. They are in touch via email, text, and online chat, get to know each student, provide support, and act as an advocate.

The counselor helps the student plan their path from enrollment to graduation. Our counselors provide guidance and resources for career interests, community colleges and universities.

Each student has a designated school social worker. Our social workers provide confidential help and can connect students to resources.

This team gets to know each student, their goals, learning style, and circumstances. This allows us to provide one-on-one support that fits each student’s unique needs. At BlueSky, online learning is personal.

This also means that students have adequate support throughout their day. While they may be learning online, they won’t need extra parental support. BlueSky staff ensure that each plan is best for the student.
