Where do you live?

I live in Walker, Minnesota, with my husband Bryan and our son, Fynn.

Why did you become a teacher?

I have always wanted to be a teacher.  My parents were teachers (I actually had my mom for high school English!) and so I have always been involved in education.  I find it very rewarding to work with students – to help them learn and grow, and to watch them master new skills and experience success.

Why did you choose BlueSky?

I chose BlueSky because it offered a whole new set of opportunities and challenges in education that I found intriguing.  I wanted to learn more about how 21st Century students learn and how to incorporate cutting edge technologies into how I teach and what I teach.  I also was drawn to the flexibility and portability of the job; I can be anywhere and still be in my classes, with my students.  That is amazing.  Finally, I feel BlueSky invests in its students and its staff.  We are preparing our students and ourselves for the future of education.

What do you think makes BlueSky special?

BlueSky puts people first.  We strive to meet our students where they are at and bring them to meet and exceed their personal potentials.  We have a model that gives staff the time and opportunity to get to know their students personally.  We don’t want kids to slip through the cracks of traditional education.  We are not just a school; we are a community.

What do you like to do when you’re not teaching?

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy being active outdoors – running, hiking, camping, rock climbing.  I cherish time with my family and friends, and enjoy time spent in conversation, recreation, and rest.  I also like reading, writing, traveling, and volunteering with Faith in Action.

If there was one thing you could tell people about BlueSky, what would it be?

You matter to us.
