Superintendent's Message

Another successful year has come to a close! Our students have shown improvements in many areas throughout this school year that we are excited to share. The NWEA MAP results from testing in the fall and spring show that 92.9% of students are at or above grade level in reading and 85.2% in math, which is an increase from last year. We had 112 students graduate and earn their diplomas this school year and all of them completed a personal learning plan! And our course passing rates have increased from 70.5% to 75.9%. Way to go BlueSky Students!

Thank you for submitting your annual spring survey! We received a lot of positive feedback and excellent comments regarding areas for improvement. The BlueSky Board and leadership will use the survey information when prioritizing goals and direction this summer.

In the upcoming 2017-2018 school year, BlueSky will transition to using a new student information software called PowerSchool. Parents will use this new system to complete annual forms and monitor their student's progress. Please anticipate receiving login information for access to this new system in August. We will be hosting a webinar for parents and have other support materials available at that time to assist with the transition. These changes will allow for improved access and user experience for students and families. Students will continue to have the same classroom experience through our Moodle learning management system. We appreciate your support as we make these important changes.

We are currently enrolling students for the fall. However, we have a student capacity of 500, which might mean that some new students will be put on a waiting list. To avoid students having to wait for a spot after the school year begins, please contact the BlueSky office if you do NOT intend to return in the fall. If you were a registered student last school year, you will automatically be enrolled for the 2017-2018 school year unless you have notified us otherwise.

Have a great summer and we hope to see you in the fall!

Amy Larsen,

BlueSky Stars

The BlueSky advisors have chosen to recognize these students for their hard work and dedication:

"Alyssa Ruuskanen is nominated because in the two years that I have been her advisor, she always sets her goals high and strives for her best. She has had perfect attendance and been an A honor roll student. I am very proud of her and her accomplishments. Her hobbies include playing with her 4 dogs, fishing, reading, and traveling. After graduation she plans to work for a year before deciding on a career either in law or working with youth struggling with mental illness."

- nominated by Angie Rackstraw

"Noah Hines is nominated for his outstanding work in his senior year. Noah was new to BlueSky this past fall and immediately thrived in the online learning environment. He managed his time well, stayed on top of assignments and continued to progress even after a major injury in the winter that made him unable to study for a period of time. He also enjoys snowboarding, hiking, and skateboarding. Now that he has graduated, Noah will be continuing his education at Western Dakota Tech. We wish Noah all the best in his bright future."

Office Summer Schedule

The BlueSky office will be closed the week of July 3rd - 7th. Summer hours will go into effect starting on Monday, July 10th. The office will be open Monday - Thursday from 9am - 2pm. The regular office schedule will resume in August.

Spring Honor Roll

We are proud to announce that 95 students made the honor roll list for the Spring 2017 semester! The list of honor roll students can be found on the BlueSky website.

Nearly 20% of all BlueSky students that completed a course last semester made the honor roll list. Of those listed:

19 had a perfect 4.0 GPA
14 were in middle school
81 were in high school
47 (49%) had an A average
8 were taking 7+ classes
53 were featured on the Fall 2016 honor roll list

We hope to see these numbers grow next year and welcome returning and new honor roll students to the list!

Attendance Awards

More good news! BlueSky announced the first ever Attendance Awards for the 2016-2017 school year. 42 students had perfect attendance (no excused or unexcused absences) and 10 students made the honorable mention list (5 or fewer excused absences and no unexcused absences). To qualify, students had to be enrolled before the start of the 4th quarter.

Summer Student Pass

Metro Transit is offering unlimited rides to students this summer for just $25! Passes are now on sale and valid from June 1st - September 5th. Students will select BlueSky from the list of school's participating and must also provide their student ID number. If you don't know your ID number, you can find it in Genius under the "Student Information" tab. If you're having trouble finding it, you can also contact the main office at 651-642-0888 or email info@blueskyschool.org.

The 2017 BlueSky Graduation Ceremony was held on June 10th with 48 of the 112 graduates from the 2016-2017 school year attending in person at St. Paul College. It was wonderful to see the proud, smiling faces of our graduates and their friends and families. To see pictures from the event, you can visit the BlueSky Facebook page. While you're on the page, you can also find a video of the entire ceremony as well as a link to the Senior Slideshow.

Top 150 Workplace

BlueSky has been named one of the Top 150 Workplaces by the Star Tribune for 2017.

Minnesota employees are surveyed by WorkplaceDynamics and the results are compiled into rankings divided by large, midsize, and small businesses.

BlueSky first appeared as an honorable mention in 2015. This is the second year in a row that we have made the Top 150 list.
