Superintendent's Message

BlueSky winter break begins December 23rd and continues through January 2nd. Students will still be allowed to work during this time, however, teachers will not be available to respond to questions or to grade assignments. Classes will officially resume on Tuesday, January 3rd.

We currently have openings for second semester enrollments. If you know friends or relatives that could benefit from BlueSky's programming, you can direct them to our website (www.blueskyschool.org) or have them call the office (651-642-0888) for more information. Other ways in which you could support BlueSky is by sharing your success stories or become involved by volunteering on committees or as a chaperone. Take a look at this brief video put together by Jen McDonough, a BlueSky parent and board member. She highlights the opportunities for BlueSky parents and guardians.

This month, two BlueSky teachers, Julie Johnson and Andrea Michels, visited the Kiwanis Club in Litchfield to talk about BlueSky and online education. They had a lot of questions about what online education really is and how BlueSky staff facilitate learning. If you are interested in having BlueSky staff speak to one of your community organizations, just let us know and we would be happy to visit your town too!

Have a great winter break!

Amy Larsen,
Executive Director/Superintendent

BlueSky Stars

The BlueSky advisors have chosen to recognize these students for their hard work and dedication:

"I am nominating Haley Wagner as a BlueSky Star based on her dedication to schoolwork, consistent communication, and ongoing hard work. She is in her second year with us and has proven time and again that she is a great fit for BlueSky. When Haley isn't doing schoolwork, she babysits and enjoys photography and arts and crafts. She is a model student and has shown tremendous growth both personally and academically."

- nominated by Laura Welciek

"Miriam Harvey is one of our middle school Stars. Articulate and reflective, conscientious and hardworking, Miriam joined us this year as a 7th grader after having been homeschooled. Miriam mastered online schooling quickly and aced her first quarter classes. She loves drawing and photography, especially when the subject is nature, and not too long ago she discovered that she has a passion for reading, especially young adult fantasy and sci-fi novels."

-nominated by Karen Kraco

National School Choice Week

School's across the country celebrate our students and guardians for a week every January. National School Choice Week for 2017 takes place January 22 - 28. We are so happy that you have all chosen BlueSky and appreciate your support!

Take a minute to reflect on why you chose (and love) BlueSky. Write your answer on this sign, take a picture holding your sign (or get creative), and email your picture to Megan Hollenkamp at mhollenkamp@blueskyschool.org. We love to hear what students and parents enjoy about BlueSky and want to share your answers on our social media sites.

Report Card Mailing Request

After winter break, there are only 3 weeks left before the end of the 1st semester/2nd quarter on January 20th. Report cards will be sent out electronically via email to all students and their guardians. If you wish to receive a hard copy of a report card in the mail, please complete the Report Card Mailing Request form (if you haven't done so already). By submitting the form, you will receive a report card in the mail after each quarter for middle school students and semester for high school students for the rest of the 2016-2017 school year.

Step-Up Internship

We know everyone is probably dreaming of summer weather...but have you thought about how you're going to spend your summer months? The Step-Up Intern program is open to Minneapolis residents between the ages of 14-21 (by June 1, 2017) who are not yet enrolled in college. This is a great opportunity to discover career avenues and beef up college applications and resumes and you can get paid up to $14/hour. Applications need to be submitted by Friday, February 10.

Student Activities

BlueSky offered two student activities during the month of December. On December 1st, BlueSky students and guests attended the play, Orange, at Mixed Blood Theater in Minneapolis. On December 15th, students came to the BlueSky office for the Winter Hang Out. Students competed in BlueSky Bingo and a gingerbread house contest as well as decorating cookies and making snowflakes while enjoying each others company. Be on the lookout for upcoming student activities on the Moodle homepage and in your inbox.

Winter Break

Just another reminder: BlueSky is on winter break from Friday, December 23rd through Monday, January 2nd. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 3rd.
