BlueSky Support Groups

BlueSky offers the unique opportunity for our students to access support while earning academic credit!

We offer a variety of support groups that students are able to be a part of in place of one of their 6 courses. Upon successful completion of the small group requirements, students will earn .5 elective credit towards graduation. Each small group is facilitated by a licensed school social worker and will enable students to acquire skills in different life areas.

Addictions Recovery Group

The social worker and students will explore issues of Addiction and Co-Dependency in various stages of dependency, recovery, and relapse prevention planning. The focus of the group is to explore this from a young student's perspective and the way it impacts their lives and families. Its primary goal is to meet the various needs of members including those concerned about or struggling with Addiction, or someone close to them who is an addict. Through group process, members will learn what addiction is, how to promote change, prevent relapse, and how to access the community support resources they needs.

1. Are you or someone close to you struggling with an addiction, or wondering if they have an addiction to a chemical or process?
a. Addiction=Loss of control or ability to stop that affects their lives in the areas of work, school, relationships, and recreation.
b. Chemical = alcohol, drugs, food, etc.
c. Process = the internet, online gaming, shopping, cutting, gambling, etc?
2. Are you pre-occupied and/or worried about yourself or someone close to you in their use, abuse, of a chemical or process (see above)?
3. Are you unsure if you are #1 or #2 but believe you might be, or have a problem?

Adolescents Attacking Anxiety

This small group support group designed for students who struggle with anxiety on a daily basis, are looking for coping skills to help them deal with it, and are willing to talk about it.

1. Do you struggle with anxiety on a daily basis?
2. Are you serious about learning ways to manage or cope with your anxiety?
3. Are you able to talk about your anxiety?

Get It Done

Get it Done is a support group that allows group members to explore and master the psychology, skills, and barriers common to goal achievement, self-motivation, and personal success planning from a young adult perspective. Group members will learn to demonstrate their understanding and enhance their lives by creating a life plan to facilitate change, personal growth, and goal achievement.

1. Are you struggling with repeated failure to meet your goals, inability to change, lack of motivation, or wondering about your purpose in life?
2. Are you pre-occupied and/or worried about never meeting your goals, succeeding in life, and a life of monotony?
3. Are you unsure if you are #1 or #2 but believe you might be, or have a problem in 1 or more of these areas?

Healing and Dealing

Healing and Dealing is a support group for teenagers who have experiences a loss in their life. The group will work through the different stages of grief, share their stories with one another, and be a place of support.

1. Have you experienced a loss in your life?
2. Has this loss caused you to have struggles in your daily living?
3. Are you willing to talk with your peers about this loss and the struggles this has created for you?

Independent Living

Independent Living is a support group that focuses on teaching teenagers life skills to live on their own. Topics discussed include filling out a job application, balancing a checkbook, creating and following a budget and caring for a home.

Mind Over Mood

Mind Over Mood is a support group to help you learn new skills to make changes in your moods, behaviors and relationships. The skills are designed to help you handle stress better, improve your self-esteem, improve relationships, and become less fearful and more confident.

1. Do you struggle with feeling down, depressed, having negative thoughts about life sometimes or have trouble relaxing?
2. Are you interested in exploring new ways to change your moods and/or negative thoughts?
3. Are you comfortable having live and/or threaded discussions within a group?

Who Am I?

Who Am I is a small group that will explore many different topics, including your personal values, family, relationships/friendships, culture, ethnicity, gender identity, violence and harassment, spirituality/religion, assumptions/stereotypes, societal beliefs, community, and personal goals/dreams.


1. The group asks you to share your thoughts and opinions with others in the group. Are you comfortable doing this while maintaining a level of respect for everyone in the group?

Social Awareness

Not offered 2010-2011. Social Awareness is a small group that is growth-oriented. Students will become more aware of themselves and how they fit into today's society. Topics include interpersonal relations, values, problem solving, communication, and ways of thinking and feeling. By the end of the group, students will be more aware of what their thoughts and feelings are about different forms of discrimination, what society's approach to discrimination is, and what they can do to actively participate in tolerance.

This small group will consist of 10-12 students and will be an open group, meaning that students can join at any time during the length of the group. The group will run approximately 18 weeks with weekly virtual requirements. Permission for a parent or guardian will be required in order for participants under the age of 18.

The Real You

The Real You is a support group designed for young woman making their way through life! The group will explore topics such as self-confidence, self-esteem, building and maintaining healthy relationships, addressing body image needs and concerns and ultimately helping students become self-aware so they can make healthy choices and decisions.
