"...he has a hope for a future thanks to BlueSky Charter School. I have recommended this school to every high school dropout that I come across...."
Without BlueSky, our son was going to be a dropout. He was skipping school and tardy for at least 100 times a semester at his previous high school. He was being targeted and repeatedly sent to the principal's office for activity that according to his IEP had a developed discipline plan that no one followed or was even aware of, not even his Special Ed. Teachers. The lack of communication forced us to remove him from school January 2006. We transferred him to another high school where we experienced similar treatment. After three weeks in the new school, during a time when his dad was just getting out of the hospital for heart surgery, the principal called and told us that our son was being kicked out of school. I pleaded with the principal to give us some time for things to get better or else our son was going to drop out. She showed no concern. We then decided to home-schooled our son from February until March. Then his district Special Ed Coordinator and I started looking for an online high school. We found BlueSky and spoke with the Director. He was great! We had a telephone IEP meeting with the 191 district coordinator and now our son is showing success! My child has been in special education and school since he was three years old and it has been a long, tough battle. As parents, we have put in a lot of advocating for our son and have endured a great amount of frustration. "No one ever knew how to teach him", that was the family saying... that is until he came to BlueSky Charter. The other day my son said, "Yeah, I could have told you I wasn't stupid." Our son's success is based on the fact that he can go to school on his time, and he has a quiet uninterrupted home environment and is not judged every day for his behaviors, which are impulsive and get him into trouble despite the many IEP's and discipline plans in public schools. We are grateful. He is getting ready to go to acoustics school in June for a month and then maybe vocational school after that. Most importantly, he has a hope for a future thanks to BlueSky Charter School. I have recommended this school to every high school dropout that I come across. Thank you, Lori Michael |
