I believe that charter schools are important resources in our changing society and I have personal experience of how positive this can be. I am a college graduate and a professional nurse. I have always been an advocate for my children on the importance of education. My youngest daughter became pregnant during her junior year of high school. She went to a very small school and her pregnancy was "frowned upon" to say the very least. Prior to her daughter's birth, she ended up dropping out of school. I did some research looking for online opportunities for her to finish school and earn her diploma. In doing so, we found BlueSky Charter School. She enrolled, worked very hard and graduated in January of 2007. The staff at BlueSky was very supportive and I was impressed with how they kept in personal touch with me and my daughter. Without this opportunity, she would not have graduated. In addition, she has convinced 3 other young adults who had dropped out of high to enroll and complete their education. I hope online schools will continually be supported. The conventional classroom is not the solution for every student, and the opportunity to complete their high school education is too important not to take into consideration other viable options.
