I have a 19-year old daughter who is enrolled in BlueSky. She was diagnosed medically with ADD in the 6th grade. She attended traditional Minnesota public schools in Red Wing, Virginia, and Gilbert, but was unable to satisfactorily complete enough credits to graduate with her cohorts last spring. I am quite certain that without the alternative that BlueSky offers, my daughter would have given up on her goal of achieving a High School diploma. Now she is taking the required online courses, and is part-time in the workforce giving care to residents of a nursing home. She talks of going on to nursing school when she gets her diploma. In our situation, local programs are not being hurt, because my daughter would have quit school altogether. On the contrary, BlueSky's online course offerings have made it possible for my daughter to be motivated to get her diploma and continue on in a post education secondary program, probably a local one. Also, the very nature of the online course program allows for the temporal flexibility demanded by her 504 learning disability accommodation plan. Despite "lip service", the traditional programs my daughter attended, by their very nature, were unable to deliver on that federally guaranteed promise, at least to my satisfaction. Sincerely,
