BlueSky Fit Club

BlueSky Fit Club is a class for those interested in setting fitness goals for themselves.  Students in Fit Club will set personal fitness goals ranging from weight loss to weight gain, increasing muscle mass to increasing bench pressing weight.  Along with students setting their own fitness goals, students will log physical activity and nutritional intake each week, and journal their thoughts and feelings about their progress.  Students will also research fitness programs and plans found today.

Health

This course will focus on physical education and personal health.  Students will understand that decisions made today impact all areas of health.  Each student will identify ways to improve wellness and decrease health risks.  Topics covered include but are not limited to systems of the body, hygiene, personal safety, conflict resolution, wellness, decision-making, communication, nutrition, physical fitness, and the impact of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs on the body.  Physical activity will be part of this course, which will include measuring your fitness level, journal your activity and participating in regular physical activity.  You may even learn some new activities that you would have never thought to try before.

Healthy Families

If you are a parent or are interested in learning about the importance of fitness for children, this course is for you.  We will look at the rising risks of childhood obesity.  What you can do as a parent to incorporate nutrition and fitness into your kids lives.  We will look at fitness and nutrition during and following pregnancy.  Games and activities you can play with your child as they grow and the ways to be a healthy role model in your child’s life.

Lifetime Physical Activity

The goal of this course is to help students accept regular participation in physical activity as an essential part of a healthy lifestyle.  Students will understand the benefits of being physically active, learn the components of physical fitness, and develop a personalized fitness plan.  They will demonstrate regular participation in both aerobic and anaerobic physical activity as well as partake in a variety of activities of their choice.

Physical Education for the Athlete 

PE for the Athlete is going to focus on the individual athlete and their chosen activity or sport. A student enrolled in this class must demonstrate a high level of physical fitness and have teacher approval prior to enrolling. Each student will choose an indiviual discipline. The course design will follow a basic framework each week, highlighting a specific topic area. Within this area, the student is expected to read an short article weekly, answer questions relating to topic, participate in weekly threaded discussions, provide evidence of activity, and complete a written reflection. Students will apply this new information to benefit their current activity or sport.

Weight Training

This is a semester class for the beginner and advanced weight lifter.  Individuals will develop a tailored program to meet your goals in weight training.  Students will need to have access to weight training equipment.
