Groups Open to Middle School Students Health 1 This course will focus on physical, mental-emotional, and family-social health. Students will understand that decisions made today impact all areas of health. Each student will identify ways to improve wellness and decrease health risks. Topics covered include but are not limited to stress management, conflict resolution, wellness, decision-making, communication, nutrition, physical fitness, and the impact of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs on the body. We will also focus on disease prevention, personal safety, consumer and environmental health, and the media’s influence on health. Grades 7-8; semester Andrea Michels

Language Arts 7 This class has been designed to introduce interesting standards-based instruction that focuses on individual student's strategy and skill development in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and thinking. Grade level literature will be introduced; short stories, the novel and works of non-fiction will be examined. Reading and writing skills will be taught and reviewed, and course assignments are designed to satisfy the MN Standards. Grade 7; year Tara Bladow

Language Arts 8 In this course, students will read, comprehend and analyze a variety of classic and contemporary literature selections, which will also be supported by spelling, grammar, and vocabulary exercises. Students will write frequently in several forms, including poetry, stories, essays, research reports, and others. Discussion boards will enhance communication skills such as effectively presenting ideas and opinions, adjusting for audience and purpose, and participating in group discussions. American Experience How did things get to be the way they are? How did America become what it is? What are the things that have changed over time and what is it that has stayed the same over the years? What does it mean to be an American? Global Studies This is a Geo-Trek where we will explore people, places, and areas to see how humans have used the earth for both good and bad. We will go exploring and see if we can uncover mysteries and find the reasons for why things are the way they are. Come along and explore. Remember to bring your curiosity and your questions.
