I am the director/principal at BlueSky Charter School. My great grandfather, Han Jensen, came to the United States from Denmark in the mid-1800's. He homesteaded 160 acres in Douglas County, Minnesota (near Alexandria) in 1862 -the first year of the Homestead Act. This farm is still in my family today. My parents were dairy farmers and also owned a summer family fishing resort, so I grew up living on the farm in the winter and living at the resort in the summer. This gave me the chance to meet people from all over the United States that came to Minnesota on their summer vacations. I learned firsthand what a lot of different people did for a living and how important their summer vacations were to them and their families. This background causes me to have a very strong sense of belonging to the state of Minnesota. I have cast a Bass-O-Reno onto a lily pad fishing largemouth bass on the still water of a Minnesota lake early in the morning. I have cross country skied the quiet, hidden trails of the Arrowhead County. I have biked the trails of Southeastern Minnesota. I have canoed and kayaked the mighty Mississippi. I have savored the green head mallard and stalked the wily white tail. From these experiences, I believe Minnesota is a very special place, and I am very glad to be living here. In Minnesota, education is valued and recognized as important. Students, in my opinion, have many different opportunities to go to school, and are encouraged to do so.
Minnesotans recognize that different people require different opportunities to be successful, and BlueSky School can provide a special opportunity to many young people. BlueSky Online Charter School can help provide a quality life to students by providing them with the opportunity to participate in a quality high school education. |
