Andrea Swanson is a licensed PRE K-12 School Social Worker & 7-12 Mathematics Teacher.  I grew up in Red Wing, but now live in Old Frontenac. Both towns are on the Mississippi River just south of St. Paul, but Old Frontenac is special because it also lies along the shores of Lake Pepin near its widest spot. It was founded in 1839 and is the oldest township in Minnesota. No commercial businesses are allowed here. The community is now a designated Historic District due to homes that were built around the Civil War era. It is really quiet and pretty here with the river bluffs and prairies that surround the lake. I live right next door to the Villa Maria, which was originally a girls' school, but now is used as a conference/retreat center. The Frontenac State Park is also close by with lots of cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and walking trails. Sometimes I like to quietly snowshoe in the park or bring my toboggan and try out the park's sliding hill.
The river has been one of my favorite teachers, because I always learn important things from her.(Things you cannot learn in a regular classroom.) In a way, I think that BlueSky School is also a place that we can learn lots of interesting things together. For several years, I taught in many different countries all over the world, but now I have decided to come back to the river and live. I enjoy adventure travel, out-door activities, gardening, cooking, knitting, yoga, and making stuff in my workshop.I am the counselor at BlueSky. If you need somebody to talk to, then give me a call.
