Howdy! My name is Heidi Tungseth and I teach fine art here at BlueSky School. Growing up, my older brother, sister and I spent many hours in front of the video camera acting, directing, making animations, costuming, music, etc… …as well as playing chess on the roof and raking up piles of leaves just so that we could do flips out of the tree into them. Boredom has never, ever been an issue. I studied philosophy and theology in my undergraduate degree at Wheaton College in Illinois, as well as participated in the Human Needs and Global Resources program, where I taught art to special needs children in Ecuador and apprenticed under indigenous weavers. I became hugely interested in pursuing art as a means of cultural preservation around the world as well as a means of creative expression for individuals. I enrolled in a post-baccalaureate program at Minneapolis College of Art and Design in Painting and Illustration, and afterward got my MN teaching license and Masters of Education in Art: K-12 from the University of Minnesota. I have taught art to students ranging from preschool age to the elderly, most recently teaching at Forest Elementary School in Robbinsdale, MN. I’ve discovered that I love teaching. I love the creative energy that happens between people when they put their ideas, skills, humor, and dreams together. I also love forming meaningful relationships and helping students achieve their fullest potential. Outside of teaching, I enjoy most anything outdoors – rock climbing, kayaking and canoeing, hiking, swimming, skate skiing…. We live in a great state, do we not?! I also am passionate about traveling, and seek out opportunities to visit and learn from native artists around the world. I look forward to meeting you, and welcome your emails, phone calls (and care packages with double chocolate cookies…..)! |
