Chris Brake is a licensed K-12 Emotional Behavior Disorders Teacher & Mild to Moderate Mentally Handicapped Teacher. Hello, BlueSky students! My name is Chris Brake and you will get to know me through special education support or my Social Responsibility class. Well, where to begin. . . . . . I feel I’ve lived a fulfilling and productive life so far (not done yet!). I’ve lived all over the United States and worked a variety of jobs before I settled into teaching. I have lots of stories about my life; so much so, that many of my students have teased me about writing a book! I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Education (after many stops and starts) from the University of Nebraska, where I am originally from (Lincoln, NE that is). I have been a special education teacher for 9 years and am currently working on my Master’s degree in Social Work at St. Cloud State University. I happily live in the Lakes Area with my earless cat who thinks she owns me. She was a stray who suffered frostbite one winter before she came to live with me thus she lost her ears to frostbite. She now has stubs so she looks like a ferret. I like cats and dogs even though I do not let a dog own me at this time.
I enjoy hiking, yoga, making hemp/bead jewelry, playing the djembe drum, and gardening. I love reading science fiction/fantasy, check out the author Terry Pratchett as he is my favorite. I also love British comedy, check out Monty Python’s Flying Circus or The Goodies (very hard to find) and comedy in general like: The Tick, Scrubs, and Arrested Development. My favorite movies are: MIB I and II. I love all kinds of music from classical to grunge punk. I often rely on my students to introduce me to new music, so don’t hesitate to tell me what you are listening to and why you like them. When I was younger I used to play Magic (my favorite deck was green and occasionally white); although I don’t play anymore, I still keep a lot of commons and irregulars around just because it is hard to let them go. Even though I rarely ride today, I grew up attached to a dirt bike and own an antique Harley Davidson that I occasionally take to shows. Don’t hesitate to contact me with questions, needs or concerns. I’m here to help! |
