Where do you live?

I live in Plymouth with my wife, Mandy, and our dog, Farnsworth. We are excited to be expecting an addition to our family early next summer.

Why did you become a teacher?

I became a teacher because I always felt through teaching all of the other professions are created. Teaching is a vital role in our society – we need competent people assisting our students in their educational path. I added the special education piece when I saw many students not being able to complete their educational goals, and believed I could help students reach them.

We can offer a high-achieving student the extra attention they demand, or a struggling student the attention they deserve.

Why did you choose BlueSky?

Taking online courses in college, I always felt it was an untapped resource for students. It takes a certain student and a certain teacher to be successful at BlueSky, and seeing people succeed here is awesome.

What do you think makes BlueSky special?

At BlueSky that fact that students can lead their individual lives, but still be a part of an educational system is amazing. We don’t have passing periods, lockers, or desks –
what we have are amazing students and staff who really work with each individual student as if they were in a class of their own. We can offer a high-achieving student the extra attention they demand, or a struggling student the attention they deserve.

What do you like to do when you’re not teaching?

When I am not working for BlueSky, I coach sports for area high schools: Girls’ Tennis at Minnetonka, and Boys’ Hockey at Mound-Westonka. This allows me to still get the athlete/student interaction that I would not get in this virtual environment.

If there were one thing you could tell people about BlueSky, what would it be?

One thing about BlueSky I want people to know is that we do not recruit students from other schools. We are an option that is offered for them and we strive to be the best option. We open our doors to new students and support them as much as we do to students who leave us to pursue other educational opportunities.
