Where do you live?

I live in Plymouth with my husband and three teenagers.

Why did you become a teacher?

I became a teacher because I love to learn new things and share that experience with others, and I have always felt a particular connection with teens and young adults.

BlueSky is special because the students truly do come first.

Why did you choose BlueSky?

I felt quite called to teach at BlueSky.  This is the first place I’ve taught where I’m allowed to use everything I’ve learned in my teaching career, rather than being forced to choose between being either a Biology teacher or as a Special Education teacher.

I have extensive experience working with students who have felt unwelcome by our educational system, and here, we are encouraged to do whatever we can to make our students feel welcome and valuable.

What do you think makes BlueSky special?

BlueSky is special because the students truly do come first. Everything we do is to teach them to be successful, and not only in learning in the “classroom,” but in relationships and communication and in feeling they’re successful.

What do you like to do when you’re not teaching?

I love to spend time with my family. With an 8th grader, a 10th grader, and a sophomore at Iowa State, my husband and I spend a lot of time laughing at their antics and driving in the car either taking them or picking them up from things.

We all enjoy playing board games and camping in our beautiful Minnesota State Parks. I also garden, bake, and volunteer at my church with youth who inspire me more every time I watch them give of their time and talents to other people.

If there were one thing you could tell people about BlueSky, what would it be?

BlueSky Online is the perfect place for people who are not satisfied with traditional public education. Students who want to feel successful once again can enjoy some support and thrive here at BlueSky School.
