Where do you live?
I live in Hutchinson with my two children.
Why did you become a teacher?
I had considered becoming a teacher when I was in high school but ended up working in business for 23 years. After a corporate layoff, I went back to grad school because I knew then that I really wanted to become a teacher and the timing to make a career change was perfect. As a business education and career and technical education teacher, I felt I could use the real-world knowledge I had gained from my previous business experience to enhance my courses and I really enjoy helping students reach their potential.

Why did you choose BlueSky?
I found the idea of online education for high school intriguing as I was enrolled in a masters program online. I applied for the Business Ed position that was open in 2006 and BlueSky chose me. They were willing to give a career-change teacher in grad school a chance at a new career and it has been exciting!
I feel the fit is perfect for me because my previous careers in IT and in Sales/Marketing required me to be in front of a computer with a phone in my hand. They also required long hours and work in the evenings. Now instead of assisting customers I’m helping students succeed!

BlueSky offers a personal touch and every teacher is personally committed to mentoring and helping their home base and classroom students succeed. We will go above and beyond in our efforts to help a student and make personal sacrifices of our time in order to do so.
What do you like to do when you’re not teaching?
I like to spend time with my children and take them places and create special memories that I hope they will cherish forever. We are especially fond of traveling both within the US and overseas. Cooking is also a hobby of mine, and I especially enjoy cooking ethnic foods and creating tablescapes.
