Brittany ThomfordeWhere do you live?
I live in Zumbrota, a small town just north of Rochester, with my husband, Wayne, three-year-old son, Owen, and newborn daughter, Claire.
Why did you become a teacher?
I decided to become a teacher because I enjoy working with young people. I first chose social studies as my area of concentration. I love history and politics. The decision to become a special education teacher came next. Working in special education allows me the ability to work specifically with a small group of students to help them better achieve their personal and educational goals.
Students are not just numbers here; they are people, with real stories.
Why did you choose BlueSky?
I chose BlueSky for many reasons. One of the reasons was because it allowed me the opportunity to teach the two subject areas I love: social studies and special education. I also chose BlueSky because of what BlueSky stands for. The emphasis on doing what is best for students at BlueSky aligns exactly with my philosophy of education. It was a perfect match.
What do you think makes BlueSky special?
I think that there are so many things that make BlueSky special. If I were to only pick one I would have to choose our student-centered attitude. From the top down, all BlueSky staff members are here to do what is best for each and every student who comes to us. Students are not just numbers here; they are people, with real stories. We here at BlueSky are here to work with students where ever they may be in their life experience and do everything we can possibly do to help them meet their goals.
What do you like to do when you’re not teaching?
When I am not teaching I love to spend time with my family.I have two small children that take up a lot of my time. Right now my three-year-old loves to play with tractors so in much of my free time I find myself playing tractors with him. My daughter is just an infant so I also like having some snuggle time with her. When I get some free time for myself, I do enjoy reading and shopping!
If there were one thing you could tell people about BlueSky, what would it be?
I would tell them that they will never find a more caring staff of educators out there. The people here are truly in education for the right reason, to work with and make a difference in the lives of the students we teach.
