Where do you live?
I live in East Bethel in northern Anoka County with my lovely wife, Becka; children, Noah & Violet; and 22-pound tabby cat, Ernie.
Why did you become a teacher?
Spending time playing and sharing music has always been a pastime of mine. I play all kinds of music, from classical music on string bass with the Northern Symphony Orchestra, to rock music with friends and family.
Students receive one-on-one instruction on their instrument at their level of proficiency and will often get the chance to choose what repertoire they play.
Since I started teaching music lessons on alto sax and trumpet in high school, I have had a passion for teaching music through private lessons as well as in the classroom. Music has been my life force, and I am pleased to share it through my teaching.
Why did you choose BlueSky?
I like the fact that BlueSky gives teachers the opportunity to form personal relationships with students in a way that fits my personality. Also, it was a blessing to become a part of the BlueSky team when I began in the spring of 2007. At that time, I was experiencing some very difficult and highly emotional family changes. I am grateful for the wonderful supportive BlueSky staff and the flexibility that BlueSky offers both staff and students.
What do you think makes BlueSky special?
I’m excited that BlueSky provides each student with an innovative approach to meeting their individualized needs in education. In my Music Lessons class for instance, students receive one-on-one instruction on their instrument at their level of proficiency and will often get the chance to choose the repertoire they play.
What do you like to do when you’re not teaching?
When I’m not working at BlueSky, I enjoy playing cribbage with my wife, teaching instrument lessons, playing rock music at my brother’s place, taking walks, skipping stones, hiking, fishing, and heckling ridiculous reality TV shows.
If there were one thing you could tell people about BlueSky, what would it be?
