Where do you live?
I live in downtown Minneapolis, and very much enjoy my evening greetings from my little terrier, Oberon.
Why did you become an educator?
My siblings and I are the first generation in my family to go beyond a high school education. Yet it was our parents who instilled within us the belief that education would provide for us a world of opportunities, a world of choices beyond what they had known or experienced.
I went into education because of the teachers who have inspired and influenced my life, who punctuated the values given to me by my parents.
And I continue to be in education because I believe that it is the means whereby each student can begin to realize her/his potential and expand their world of opportunities.
Why did you choose BlueSky?
I came to BlueSky Online because I am both interested in providing educational alternatives for students as well as being deeply interested in the reform of education for the 21st Century. At BlueSky, we are that 21st Century alternative!
What do you think makes BlueSky special?
Our staff's commitment to working side by side with our students is what sets BlueSky apart. We are committed to providing top quality education in a safe, welcoming environment where every student receives the support she/he needs to be successful!
What do you like to do when you're not working at BlueSky?
When I'm not at BlueSky, I very much enjoy exercising, traveling, reading and cooking. If I can't be in Italy, at least I try to eat as if I were...
If there were one thing you could tell people about BlueSky, what would it be?
If you want a highly personalized education from a committed staff, BlueSky is your school!
Experience
Previously, I taught English at Harding High School in the St. Paul Public Schools, also serving there for several years as the Media Specialist. From there, I went on to teach English at an Alternative Learning Center in St. Paul Public. During that time, I started doing some blended online learning in the classroom, so when BlueSky came available, I jumped at the opportunity. I joined the BlueSky family about three years ago as an English teacher. From there, I became the Curriculum and Staff Development Coordinator, eventually moving into the role of director.
