Licensed School Counselor
Where do you live?
I currently live near Sioux Falls, South Dakota, although I lived in Buffalo, Minnesota, when I started working at BlueSky. I live with my three children, Jake, Zack and Lucy, and our dog, Max.
Why did you become a counselor?
There are so many places where online education can take us, and I'm excited to be part of that.
I graduated from college with a degree in psychology but was always drawn to education. After about nine years in the business world, I decided to go back to school to become a school counselor. I wanted a career where I felt like I made a difference in people's lives, and I wanted to work with kids.
Why did you choose BlueSky?
I chose BlueSky for many reasons. I was attracted to the philosophy of the school and to working with students who had struggled with a traditional school. I liked the flexibility BlueSky offered to our students and to teachers, and I liked the idea of online learning. I think there are so many places where online education can take us, and I'm excited to be part of that.
What do you think makes BlueSky special?
I think the number one thing that makes BlueSky special is our staff. From teachers to counselors to social workers to office staff I think we are hands down the most caring and creative group of people that I've ever worked with. Our service to students is outstanding and I think we do a really good job of getting to know our students and families.
What do you like to do when you're not working at BlueSky?
I stay incredibly busy with keeping up with my kids. Between many sporting events for all three kids I seem to spend lots of time watching games. When I have free time I love to read and am always in the middle of a book. I also enjoy running, hanging out with my friends and family, and lying on the beach. Of course in South Dakota there's not much opportunity for lying on the beach, but I can dream about it!
If there were one thing you could tell people about BlueSky, what would it be?
The staff members at BlueSky Online School truly care about each and every student that attends here. All of us will do our best to try to make school a good experience and to help students find success.
